A woman accused with pursuing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a phone message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the court learned communication data and evidence obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test over 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most publicized missing child cases and continues to be unresolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

A separate recorded message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I feel."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am she? Then what? Is that not significant for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I only wish to know," she added.

The panel was informed that via electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a attempt to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who compiled the evidence, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On that date, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I plan to establish my claim."

Court proceedings
Kate and Gerry McCann testified to the court from using a security measure on Wednesday

The court heard the co-defendant established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.

Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the time before the visit to Rothley, Leicestershire, in last December.

The court was told message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, planning attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a eating establishment.

"We need to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the visit to their residence, Mrs Spragg dispatched a communication which stated: "We are sat near the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to detectives. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."

The case continues.
