Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
