Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
